THANK YOU AND GOODNIGHT
I’ve decided to close this blog as of January 1st. For those of you who enjoyed reading, I thank you for your support and I hope you all have a prosperous and happy 2012. MJB
EDIT – Thanks so much to those of you who have posted kind words in response to this news. Kinda makes me wonder if it’s worth carrying on but maybe with a new approach…

Thank you for re-considering Michael. I would dearly miss it and yes, a new positive start is needed for the new year I do agree – 2011 was too loooong. A man who deserves a drink sometime in the future
If you indeed close your blog, I will miss it. But thanks for all the updates you have provided us fans aver the past few years. Not many directors are as open and reachable as you, and I really appreciate it.
Best of luck for Silent Hill 2, I’ll be first in line
Don’t take this down, man. It has become part of my morning routine to read the latest info\drama\fact – how ever you may have it. I truly do enjoy it. I have learned a ton about your work. I would really like this blog to be up and running when the SH campaign begins and then all the way to the release. I would like to know how you feel about the whole process. Not only that, I want to be able to follow your future projects. Keep it real for your fans! KEEP IT RUNNING!
Don’t quit your blog dude, you got angry with a few people sure, and some of us responded in kind but we all respect/admire your work here, water on the bridge and all that.
Honest suggestion from me, just do an FAQ post and mark it to your sidebar with what you expect from posters here and what you won’t tolerate, and what you will delete, such as people asking the same shit you’ve covered already before.
It’s 2012 soon, have a new start to wordpress. Sorry I got a little pissed by your comment aimed at me, been stressed too lately, didn’t mean to offend or anything, I still respect you and think you’re a great director.
*Water under the bridge
why you will close this blog mr. Basset? It was a great opportunity for you to stay close of your fans andcomunicate with them and know what they think about your work, anyway happy new year
Sad to hear that. Your new approach could be writing articles about the filmmaking process, share your experiences; or given that there are legal and other obstacles to sharing insight before a project is released, you could do what’s been popular in the game industry for quite some time now – write project postmortems: you know, what went right, what went wrong, what could have been done differently in hindsight, the things you learned, etc.
I’d be really happy to read such articles, and I don’t doubt most of other people here would enjoy them as well.
Don’t close it ! I’ve been visiting this blog for a long time….I really like the work your doing, your vision is great.
I just want to thank you for the rare opportunity you gave us, to have some insight in the filmaking process. Also for keeping us posted. I know dealing with fans can be a pain, since they blindly criticise even what they know nothing about yet, as is the case here. So try to pay no attention to those bitter few. Know that there’s more of us supporting you and wishing the best for you and your upcoming films. Greetings from Mexico and good luck with all of your future projects.
Okay GOOD LUCK! We will all be waiting for the successful SH movie!
Hey Michael,
I’ve been a lurker of your blog since it was announced you would be working on Silent Hill. Just wanted to say thanks for sharing some words with the fan community and being a generally nice guy. Glad to see that there isn’t a total disconnect between artists and fans. Good luck with all your future endeavors and I look forward to the day that I am in my local cinema watching Silent Hill and your other future projects.
Take care!
I did not even know you had a blog, good sir, until a friend posted it and let others know about your choice to leave this blog. Now, i wish i had come upon it sooner, for if it wasn’t for you, i would not have fallen into the adventures of Solomon Kane. I am now lovingly reading Robert E. Howard’s stories, and it is because of your movie. I am sad to hear this news, and i am one of the many who hope you will change your mind.
God bless you and keep you. Good luck with your upcoming projects.
I think we all really appreciated that you took your time to inform us about what you were doing and how you were doing it. It’s not a common thing in the world of Cinema.
It was fun AND useful!
Happy New Year and, sincerely, I can’t wait for the movie… you seem to have done an amazing job.
And, just because I think it too, to repeat the words of Pawel: Don’t you love us no more?
Haha.
Thanks for the updates while it lasted!
Best of luck to you in 2012 with the movie; can’t wait to watch it!
Dear Mr. Basset,
This news griefs me so much. I, too, am a silent follower and have watched in awe how you brought the magic alive, the little behind the scene facts and things we fans would have never known if not revealed in this blog.
Your Solomon Kane movie and your vision on the REH stories has changed my life ( and maybe turned me a bit into a fantarding fruitcake XD ) And I want to take this opportunity to thank you for everything you have created, shared and done.
I personally think it takes courage to step back and though saddened I fully understand your decision.
Take care hunn, and all the best for the apocalyptic year!
Michael,
I fully understand you decision but Im very sorry you feel this way.
I have really enjoyed your blog and the behind-the-scenes texts and without your blog I wouldnt have come in contact with neither Solomon Kane nor the other characters in the REH-world.
At least not in the way that Im know them now. Its funny how one thing leads to another and your blog have played a major part for me in this particular circumstance. I thank you for that!
Also, remember that for every nutcase/hater out there, theres at least one sane “follower”. We just dont post as much…
I really wish all the best for you and your family.
If you ever turn up in Stockholm and feel like a pint or two…you dont need to look twice for support
Thanks you for all you’ve done in interacting with us the fans, and providing us with info till now.
From Mexico city. I wanna say thanks for your blog Michael!! We are waiting for the release of silent hill revelations. I think you are such a gr8 director. Hope you still writting on twitter. Send U a huge hug and greetings!!
Well he hardly used the blog anyway so I doubt it had much to do with fans posting here, though that can be tiresome… So maybe he closed it because he wasn’t doing much with it as he’d planned anyway? I can get that… Still, thanks for interacting with us. We look forward to seeing and hearing more about the film!
I can understand, I’m very proud to be your fan and I’m very proud to Silent Hill: Revelation, I wish you a happy 2012 and I wish you will become still more famous.
It was a wonderful experience, talk with a film director! So, if you can, I ask you only a thing, if you can write the last little update before of 1st January for close this blog with informations and expectations for the film and the goodbyes. But don’t worry, if you can’t is not important. Thanks for the film, the blog, and your sympathy. A big goodbye from me and my friends from Salerno, Italy. Goodbye Michael!
-Alex
Thank you for keeping us updated! Good luck with all of the work you are working on and will work on in the future! Keeping a blog is hard work, so deleting it is probably the best idea. Just please, don’t ever lose faith in your fans. they’re the ones who can make or break you. Getting involved with something with such a hardcore fan-base is demanding and tough. I really appreciate the updates and for answering fan questions-very kind.
Best Wishes, Michael!
Yes. It. Is. A. Good. Idea
Always a better way to do something. These comments are quite touching – nice to see people cared about your words//films.
Thank you Mr. Bassett. It is really cool seeing a director take such a direct interest in the people that love the work. I look forward to seeing more and more projects of yours (especially Silent Hill). Good Luck and God Speed.
Michael keep on, please! We would really appreciate it!
I’m still waiting for something as well as millions of people. Sad you decided to close this blog. In some way I can understand, It’s not your fault, but neither ours. Nothing against you, of course, nothing at all, you do not have the fault of having those producers. Have a wonderful 2012, enjoy your life, continue doing films, be unique in your style…and…well, waiting for Silent Hill Revelations, better say waiting for something about Silent Hill Revelations. xSS
It is unfortunate the closing of this blog. However, it is easy to understand you grow tired of hearing all the pissing and whining that a lot of fans send. Thanks for all the updates Mr. Bassett, as a die-hard silent hill fan, I very much look forward to the film and hope to see a u.s. release of Solomon Kane.
I think he should get some of us fans to moderate his comment section and lay the ban-hammer on some of these people…lol
I am really disappointed in hearing you are shutting your blog down. I don’t follow any directors that offer as much insight as you do in your blog. It is really nice to read you thoughts and the processes you go through here.
Thank you for keeping this blog up and running for so long. I wish you good luck with your future projects. I hope you found Toronto and its area friendly place to stay and work, so you will gladly come here again and again.
Hey man, totally understand….will still say it will suck not having your blog to check out…hope you still find a way to in contact with the fans…and I will still be following you on twitter…Thanks for everything you have posted here…it was an awesome gesture….keep kicking ass….and may the force be with you lol
Thanks so much for all the work you’ve put into running it and keeping us updated. I’ve really enjoyed reading your posts here and it’s amazing how much you’ve interacted with the fans — you must be really busy and to take the time to do that for us is truly appreciated.
It was from reading your comments here before filming started that I knew the next Silent Hill film was going to be in good hands — good luck with everything between now and release, and with your future projects!
Thank you for everything Michael. I’ll keep supporting you from Twitter. Happy New Year
As all the others have said, sorry to see you go. Just to clarify things though, are you speaking of the Silen Hill blog specifically, or the whole thing?
Either way, good luck with your future endeavours; loved your films in the past, and I’m sure I’ll love the coming ones as well.
A thought though, if you ever feel like a short break from filming, it could be an idea to write a book on your thoughts and experiences on film-making. I have read some on the subject from different authors, but I’d love reading one by a director I feel shares my taste in films, and one who I feel is a great film-maker. I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one in here who would like to read something like that.
Anyway, happy new year to you as well!
I nearly had a heart-attack when I read this… Oh Michael, I truly understand your decision and greatly appreciate your passion and your spirit. This is quite a blow however… I can truthfully say I’ve visited this blog just about everyday after the announcement of your involvement with Silent Hill.
I’ve since seen all of your movie and will remain a loyal fan of yours. It is a shame, but I guess every good thing must end one day. Still hope to hear more from you in the future! You really are a great guy and a fine director. Please continue to follow your passion, it ignites and inspires the creativity of many people world wide. I am proud to be one of them.
-Best Wishes & Farewell
Stephen
Why?
It’a a shame but maybe to much work!?
Thanks for the nice time on this block.
Wish you all the best and a happy New Year!
Regards
Andy
What I can say? I have participated in this blog for a long time, since before the filming began, even before we knew who would be the protagonists, and much water has passed under the bridge, many interesting comments and others not, have come and gone, and also many differences and discussions have been generated.
I must admit that I have often been one of those who have been involved in these discussions that were sometimes interesting and sometimes only aggressive, but you’ve always managed to keep the canal open and allow everyone to express their opinion, and when dealing with fans sometimes things are out of control.
When we can finally enjoy the movie, you’ll remember us and we of you, without a doubt.
In short, I want to thank you for keeping all this time, this place, even in the middle of filming and I wish you the best honestly. Greetings from Argentina. Marcos.
Sorry to see this blog go
I would have loved to read your thoughts on the upcoming promotion of the film and the reactions from fans before and after the film’s release.
At least ONE little juicy piece of new Silent Hill: R 3D information before you leave, please?
That’s funny, right after I’ve subscribed to it and everything. The first e-mail I get about it is the one telling me you’re ending it. Just my luck. Will there be another place that you will post Silent Hill Revelation info? I have faith in you Basset, I know you won’t ruin this movie, I just hope there’s some more news about it soon! I’m freaking out, I need my Silent Hill fix. Also, Happy Holidays!!!
Thanks for keeping the blog as long as you did. Like others have said, it was really interesting to read your insights into film-making as both a director and a writer. And ever since watching Deathwatch, I’ve really been looking forward to SH:R and your future projects (rest assured, as soon as Solomon Kane becomes available in the U.S., I will be on that movie like a hobo on a ham sandwich
). Good luck with everything, and have a great 2012!
Will miss your news & insight. Still waiting for the good news re: Solomon Kane. Thank you for everything.
Thanks for everything! It’s been great having such insight to the life of a director. Hope all goes well, and can’t wait to see all of your future work! Take care man
Thanks for all the updates Mike! Can’t wait for Silent Hill: Revelation, and hopefully, U.S. release of Soloman Kane. Good Luck with all!
Thank you so much for keeping in touch with fans through this blog as much as you have been, Mr. Bassett. It’s great to see a director communicate with his fans and answer questions here and there.
I’m sure you are going to be very busy in the future! I’ve been following the progress of SH: Revelations and I can’t wait to see the finished product.
And from those of us who have enjoyed reading your posts and interacting on the blog, Happy New Year to you too and yes, thank you for taking the time and effort to share so much of your career and endeavours with everyone. You’ve given a lot and deserve respect, consideration and enjoyment on this site. Should you re-consider, there are those of us who would still like to see you on this journey but I understand why you might want to stop the blog as well.
Rest assured Michael – 2012 will turn out to be a mighty fine year for you as a filmmaker – now have a well deserved holiday:) Caroline
A worthy New Year’s resolution, to be sure. I’m sorry to see you close this blog down, its always nice to have an insider’s view on the filmmaking process. But its also nice to keep your sanity, so this is probably the best move for you right now.
It’s been nice chatting with you and with many of the other folks here. If anyone wishes to stay in touch, you can find me on Facebook at Yukailin talking about film festival stuff and other random items.
For sure Cathy – I’ve come to kinda know you and others including Michael through this blog so be glad to stay in touch. I’m sure there are other ways for Michael to share his projects with everyone but time and yes, finding a balance between giving and receiving, is always an issue in this industry too.
Happy New Year’s to all of you.
You deserve a rest!! I’ll be waiting for your return, for the last year of mankind!!! Just kidding, have fun!
Thank you for your interesting and informative blog, and best wishes for all your future endeavors.
But before you shut this down – do you have any final news on Solomon Kane in the USA?
Dont you love us no more?
Why?
Thanks for all you’ve done Mr. Bassett. I can’t wait to see the film and what future projects you will do. I wish you all the best and a Happy New Year. Don
