FINAL UPDATE OF 2011

First…. I’ve decided I’m going to keep this blog going.  I was really touched by the generous comments everyone left – and surprised that so many people actually gave a damn.  (I deleted the nasty ones because that’s just how I’m going to roll in 2012.) I’m going to set some new rules for posting and be a lot more aggressive with the delete button.  Beware.

I enjoy writing the blog but always had a nagging sense of guilt about not doing it enough. I wanted to really build it up, write essay and start discussions but apathy and being too busy are deadly bedfellows.  But I felt the blog became sidetracked;  I never wanted this blog to become a Silent Hill news forum, I just wanted it to be about stuff that I was doing and thinking. Of course, many, many people who come here are only here because of Silent Hill and I respect that but it still doesn’t mean I’m going to feel an obligation to post things I don’t want to.  Silent Hill has been a massive and exciting part of my life this year but that journey is coming to an end soon and I’m going to move onto other things.  All that’s left is the mix, the final delivery of a few straggling VFX and a couple more days of grading and then I’ll be handing my movie over to the powers that be and it’s up to them to decide what happens to it.  I’ve said enough about release dates and trailers and promo stuff here to last me a long while, so there’s nothing new to add there.  I’ll share what I’m doing when I can.  It’ll just have to be enough, I’m afraid.

Over Xmas, I’ve spent every day – apart from Xmas day itself – writing a new script (actually, I was displacing instead of writing but they’re almost the same thing) but also, listening to and giving notes on the SH score as it was coming in.  Jeff  and Akira have been working all through  the holidays to get stuff together for when our final mix begins in a week or so’s time.  It sounds terrific so far.  All new stuff but with lots of cool themes and ideas from Akira’s previous work.  We’re up against a deadline here and it needed to be approved so it can go an be orchestrated and prepared.  No rest for the wicked.  I was also toying with some footage, trying to cut a short tease trailer that I liked but never did quite finish it.  Partly that’s because of…

…Skyrim.  I’ve spent waaay too much time in my new gaming chair and hunting dragons.  Blame Bethesda, I say.

Very excited by Prometheus trailer.  ’Alien’ was the reason I became obsessed with movies so seeing this vision return after over a generation is  pretty intense.  Will the film be any good?  Ridley Scott is my hero as a film visionary but boy, is he patchy these days.  If the script is weak, so is the film.   But my faith is strong and I did go through every damn frame of the trailer to glean what I could.  Space Jockey back story!!? I’ve waited 30 years to find that one out; though I’ve written the movie dozens of times in my head anyway.  Wonder what they’ll come up with?

But above all, it was just really damn nice to be at home for the first time in many months. I hope you all had a chance to take some down time.  Tomorrow (at least in the UK) brings in 2012.  As we all know, it’s going to be the end of the world soon (damn those Mayans and their inability to correctly make a calendar; run out of numbers? well, that must mean it’s the end of the world!), so I’m planning to do as much as a I can.  If you’re interested, I’ll keep posting to this blog and share a little with you.

Thanks for visiting.  If you’re partying tonight (whenever your tonight is) have a great time and I wish you the very best for 2012.

MJB.

  1. They should be orchestrating the final mix for the film today, maybe tomorrow. In any case, good luck in Paris Micheal!

  2. Just caught a short film on television called “At the Tattooist”, with Adelaide Clemens in it. Very interesting. Makes me happy to see her go from acting in low budget aussie shorts, to starring as Heather Mason in a Silent Hill film.
Have you watched Wasted on the Young?

  3. Hi Michael , long time fan . Deathwatch was superb , I thought you couldn’t make a better film , Then wilderness came along and again i thought to myself this guys good no way could he make a better film . low and behold the behemoth that is Solomon Kane came along , ” I am getting to a point “. Towards the beginning of Solomon Kane when Solomon enters the castle with his men , right after the room with the mirrors Solomon shoots a deserter in the back and says ” i am the only devil here ” that is not only one of my favourite shots but also my favourite line in a moveie ever!!! I was hoping to find out what is your favourite shot/scene/line etc from the movies you have created ? hope you had a great new year

    best regards

  4. hi michael. i have been reading your blog on and off for a while now, yes i am a silent hill fan. but it was only after reading this i realised you did a superb little movie called deathwatch which i had seen many years before. I have since brought both wilderness which i liked but didnt go mad for and soloman kane which i really liked. I know you have had lots of what i gather to be very annoying questions and misrepresenting or misunderstandings of your words but its great you have decieded to carry on with the blog. I have since become a fan of your work and like your style and approach. i have no questions no when this what that. i Justwanted to say i am really excited about the new SH movie and am being patient and grateful for every nugget of info you can share. I very much look forward to other projects you may tackle. keep us posted please!

  5. Michael,
First of all, i want to say I enjoyed very much Solomon Kane. The best adaptation of a Robert E. Howard to date.
Are you interested in make a film from a H. P. Lovecraft work? Just wondering.
    Cheers from Brazil!

  6. Michael, what did you think about the prequel of The Thing??, Glad you decided to stay with the forum. Happy New Year!!.

  7. Hi Michael

I’ve been following your blog for a while now and am very happy to see you’ve decided to keep it going. This is my 1st response to a blog of any kind (not even on Facebook or Twitter), but felt I had to reply to your latest update and share something with you.

I too am excited about ‘Prometheus’. Would love to have seen it made in classic Panavision without any CGI but that’s just my silly selfish old school nostalgia kicking in!

Anyway, this isn’t particuarly interesting but i’ll quickly tell it anyway. In my opinion two of the best films ever made needless to say are Alien and Bladerunner. Had an old friend being Simon (i’ve lost touch with him now) who’s father is Terry Rawlings. I met him on a couple of occasions and it was always just a polite hello and goodbye, when what I really wanted to say was that ‘As editor of these amazing films this makes you serious film royalty and am humbled to be in your presence!’

A very polite and quiet man, that’s it.

    Keep up the good work

    Regards

    Stephen

  8. You’re my hero. Glad to hear you’re not closing this down. Keep up the witty work, and best to your 2012!

  9. While I’m glad that everything is coming around for SH and it is surely the reason I came across this blog in the first place, you have shared many other things beside that I’m glad to have found out, and I’m even happier that you decided to keep the blog going. I only check by once in a while, but I do keep my eyes open for things of interest. Good luck to Kit with the Arthur movie and many thanks to MJB for sharing with us, the fans. Appreciate everything you do and everyone enjoy your new year! x3

  10. Yay! I’m so excited to hear that the blog will still be up and running! I think most of us appreciate that Silent Hill is just one aspect of your work and we are excited to see what is next for you this year. I’m just glad Skyrim came out after you were done cause I wouldn’t hold it against you if you didn’t want to do anything else but play that game LOL! All the best!

  11. Hi Michael! I absolutely agree with you! And the photo on “rules of my blog” is very nice XD! So, you can be sure that I never will post bad comments or write bad things because you’re a idol and I like your filmstyle and your sympathy, and I NEVER disappoint my idol, whatever happens, and you must be free of write whatever you want because is YOUR blog and we mustn’t write bad post.
So, I also tomorrow buy Skyrim, I want kill some dragons XD hihihihi!! I’m very happy to keep at talk with you, and I wish you a very happy 2012, and I wish to myself of learn English for the end of this year XD. So, bye Michael!

    Ale-from-italy

    • Well said, go for Skyrim on the PC if you want an almost lag free experience. Game is somewhat broken on the PS3 at the moment. As said earlier, the more changes/further in the game you get, the larger your game file increases, and because of this the framerate slows to a crawl on the machine.

Mostly because the current generation of consoles lack enough ram to run the game properly.

  12. Hello Michael !
A lot of people all around the world are getting nervous now. We saw the site that tells us that Lionsgate will release the Revelations but there is no date when. A lot of people thinks that this movie will never be released…
Can you tell us something new about the post-production ?
And can you calm some of the fans and promise them that Revelations WILL be released sooner or later.
One more thing ? Is it sure that it’s going to be released in 2012 ?
    Best regards from Poland !

    • Sorry, Soko; I’ve more than answered this question dozens of times elsewhere in this blog. Yes, the film will be released. When? I have no idea.

  13. Thanks for continuing these blogs Mr. Bassett. I must say, after watching Solomon Kane, I was extremely hooked on your filming style. I’m looking forward to seeing more of your work, whether it be writing or directing. I’m also super stoked for your rendition of Silent Hill. I have been a fan of the series since day 1, so this is really exciting for me. What was your initial reaction when you saw Alien for the first time? I’m not sure what to expect from Prometheus, but I’m ready for this movie to hit theaters.

    • I was too young to see Alien at the movies when it first came out but I’d been utterly obsessed with it for years before; collecting all the ‘making of’ books, models and anything else I could find. My old school books are covered with Alien creature graffiti. It was the first film that I really understood had been ‘made’ by someone and wasn’t just ‘there’ in the cinemas as if by magic. I think not being able to see it for many years made it even more mystical to me. Oddly, when I finally caught it on a crappy VHS copy and was kinda let down (though never admitted it) but then saw it at a second run theatre years later in full letterbox frame with sharp picture and good sound. Subsequently I’ve seen it dozens of times. It never ages. It’s a masterpiece, pure and simple. Apart from the really crappy moment when the baby alien runs across the table after coming out of Kane, I don’t think there’s a single thing I’d change. I know I couldn’t do it better in any way. My favourite film ever is Blade Runner (with narration) but Alien is more important to me.

  14. First of all, Happy New Year!

I think I’m one of the persons who came here because of information on the production of Silent Hill, but after a while I got more interested in your other project.

I saw Solomon Kane a few days ago and I really like it – dark atmosphere, great story.
And now I just ordered Wilderness on DVD.

Although I came here for Silent Hill, I will follow your way after the movie – I really like your work, so keep it up!

  15. Did know you were such a big gammer Micheal! You got a 3DS? I would like to add you as a friend! or steam! ;) or maybe too many people will ask. LOL!

  16. Glad to hear the Blog remains but not the Same. Sure its only natural that FOCUS will be on the latest progects. But as you say its YOUR Blog & as you move on so should the threads. Happy New Year! Its a Dragon Year!

  17. This is great news ! Keep it going Michael ! You have many fans around the world.

  18. Heard the bad news while away, returned home to the good news! Thrilled you decide to keep this going. As others have said, not just for SH related items, even if it did start out that way. Watched Solomon Kane and hugely enjoyed it! Awesome visually, too.

I’ve never bothered you with questions before regarding Revelation (and I won’t again after this), but seeing as how you’re now getting the last FX shots in, I’m reminded of something I’ve been really curious about: are those bugs still in this one? I personally found them to be distracting in the first film, which seemed to think they were terribly frightening when they were just pointless bits of CGI that added nothing to the fear the dark world should be creating more intelligently. Are they still here? Thanks.

    • That’s just something you’re going to have to wait and see, Paul, I’m afraid. There’s old monsters and some new – that’s all I’m going to say :)

      • Exciting! I can’t wait to see! What upcoming films are you planning on directing?

      • Lol fair enough. :p

Oh and yes, Prometheus really looks like the return of the Ridley Scott I love. Between that film, Silent Hill, Dark Knight Rises, The Hobbit, and Skyfall… 2012 is kind of like film buff porn. We’ll all go out this December with a smile on our faces! Thanks again for the response. :)

  19. Oh, forgot something:

    Happy New Year!

  20. Happy to read you will keep your blog alive! (we all more or less secretly wanted that, ha!)

I can’t wait to read more about your work. It’s truly inspiring, seing that you’re actually a HUMAN BEING. It’s almost strange.

I’m also really pleased to read that the score for SHR is good. I wasn’t doubting about it considering the two who works on it, but still, a confirmation always brings a smile to our faces.

Also, Skyrim is bad. Bad bad bad.
Completely random question here: what race did your choose? Nord I guess! (guessed wrong?)

    • Yeah, I went Nord, after toying with a few different ideas. I figured if I wanted to invest in the world, it should be as close to me as possible. Though occasionally I do open a version of the game where I play with no moral compass and set about killing every living thing I can find. Strange how guilty I feel after doing that – I agonised over hacking a tethered dog to bits – so I then play my main game giving gold to beggars and helping little old ladies.

      • Haha, I can understand this type of gaming pretty well. on my first game, I killed everyone in the first village because everyone attacked me after I killed a chicken in the street.
        Yeah.

        Killed many dragons yet?

  21. Glad to know that you are continuing with the blog. I’m looking forward to updates on your other future projects.

  22. Good man, Michael. This is one of the only blogs I read– always interesting.

    Thanks.

  23. I used write film scripts like you…then I took an arrow to the knee.

Glad to see you’re keeping the blog. Thank you, Michael.
    Happy New Years.

    • It amazes me the amount of people who fail with that unfunny, overused Skyrim meme.

Makes me wish Aldiun would swoop down and vanquish people that say that overused knee joke. :P

      • Wow dude. Calm down. Go to funnyjunk if you want to rip on people telling those jokes.

        • Thanks, Jacobkun. It’s kind of a slap in the face to this blog to start hate comments again, especially after all that’s happened and after Michael decided to keep the blog. Anyway, have you seen this video? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_3TcAtDxKg
Funny! Hope you had a good New Year!

        • Aldiun is a dragon in Skyrim that you battle, quite enjoyed the fight actually, very well done even. The game in general was quite good in my opinion.

Personally played the game on the PC on a hexacore system, as in my opinion it was the best platform to play the game on, as the PS3 version has a serious problem in that the longer you play the more the game lags due to the save file growing bigger and bigger with all the changes you do in the game.

Regardless despite the games glitches, I thought the ending was quite surreal, granted the final boss predictable given the games theme but the way the game ended impressed me.

Anyway I wasn’t ripping on anyone, sorry if I came accross as negative, granted the knee thing is overused but I think I came accross as judgemental, you’l have to excuse my comment about the *Joke* being unfunny, it was made late night when typically I should of been asleep lol, but was busy working on the comp.

          • I appreciate this clarification Matthew; I think some people could have taken your last comment the wrong way.
Also – interesting about the lag issue on PS3. I’ve just started noticing it. Always preferred PC gameplay myself – gimme a mouse/keyboard combo any day.

            • Sadly it’s a design flaw with the game Michael, if you look as you get further into the game your save file increases quite a lot with all the data and experiences your character has. It’s more obvious on the PS3 because of the limited ram(256mb main), the Xbox 360 gets crashing issues too/slowdown but not so much, the PC gets it but not as much either.

To fix Bestheda would have to redesign the way the game saves stuff like that, it’s a shame actually because Skyrim is a solid game and to have a game breaking glitch like that sucks.

Such a widely reported issue from people I’m not sure if they’ve fixed yet. They’re certainly getting a rep for releasing buggy games now.

One of my favs is the glitching Dragon which kinda floats around awkwardly before vanishing, or the one where you freeze the ground near an enemy on a cliff top and watch it bounce accross the landscape(Unsure if everyone can replicate).

I agree with you, PC gaming always beats consoles, as PCs are pretty much always going to be more powerful, I prefered Oblivion and Morrowind on the PC too, if you haven’t tried either I suggest doing so, Morrowind is really old now so should be able to run on anything really.

              • Basically from what I can understand, the lagging via the huge save file is due to the console reading? the data continuously and saving, it doesn’t seem to matter what console you use, be it fresh, old or brand new, people get the same results everytime according to tests.

            • Any game that allows me to gay marry a lizard man is going in my good book.

    • @Kassandra – I like your comment and did have a good laugh because..I do have a dodgy left knee courtesy of an accident years ago (no arrow but felt like one piercing my bone:), and do write. I don’t hunt dragons but am inked with one on my back shoulder. Hmmm blog synchronicity…

@Matthew – haven’t played Skyrim yet but the visuals look great and I think it would make a fantastic film but again along the epic LOTR scale so in this day of budget cuts, not sure that will happen anytiime soon. Wouldn’t be worth doing it cheap or on a smaller scale – think “mini” Stonehenge in Spinal Tap:)

      • Skyrim the movie would have to be a 200 odd million dollar movie purely for the Dragons alone/shouts, I can’t imagine anyone being able to do it for less, the dragons are like the central theme for the game, so technically they’d need priority, then the magic, and other effects.

I would love to see something like Elder Scrolls Oblivion being made into a movie, Sean Bean voices whats his name, a main character anyway the heir to the throne when the Emperor dies(You need to find him), so technically if they do an Oblivion movie, they’d need Sean Bean :)

They could get Kit Harington to play the main character, he’s a little young but has talent.

That’s if someone does a movie lol

        • Thanks Kassandra – lol – someone once said tattoos are like dying your hair blonde: once you start, you can’t stop:) I haven’t chosen another yet . @Cathy – I’m going to look that image up now – cool.

Matthew, I’ve even heard of 300 mill. budgets. Those over-paid dragons – they’ll bankrupt the business :-) Sean Bean – always awesome. Kit – young but holds himself with a great maturity/presence. Pls. use him again Michael in future, if possible.

          • Hah Caroline, look amongst the books from Melanie Rawn for inspiration, and if you’re familiar with the work, the annoying wizard will be easily spotted.

      • Caroline, thanks! I suppose, then, you should get this tattoo!: http://static.inentertainment.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/Skyrim-tattoos-alternatives-to-an-arrow-on-knee-pic-main.jpg

Matthew, it’s okay. I made that mistake a couple posts ago about staying up too late. The only problem was I had been studying all day and expected my brain to still operate normally. Haaaaah. All is forgiven. And personally, I still think the joke is funny! That joke will never get old!

Michael, what games are your favorites? The first Legend of Zelda, Kingdom Hearts, and SH Origins are my favorites. I love watching my boyfriend play Assassin’s Creed and Dante’s Inferno too, because I don’t have time to play games anymore. :(

        • Speaking of Kingdom Hearts, loved Birth by Sleep, great game to play whilst traveling, speant too much time on that game that reminded me somewhat of Monopoly, where you and 2 disney characters go around a board after rolling a dice buying up squares. Great game btw.

        • Oh, that tattoo is just funny, love it. I also have a Dragon on my back, one pulled from a book cover made by Hugo winning Michael Whelan. I just had the tattoo artist remove the annoying wizard from the image.

  24. Happy new year Michael, did you see my comment on your other post?

Happy you kept your blog open regardless, hopefully 2012 will see your Silent Hill film doing better than the first, and you getting the attention you deserve from your movies and getting more big budget offers to do other stuff.

Very overdue in my opinion, you should be doing bigger budget movies, Soloman Kane proved that.

  25. Of all the Happy new year messages I received today this was by far the best.

I’m glad you decided to keep the blog up for us curious followers. And I guess any update is a welcome one because personally I did not just sign up for movie news and facts -interesting as they may be- I also like to read of your adventures as they are written down very well with a delicious note of sarcastic humor. It makes me smile and it makes you more human.
And, to me, it somehow adds to the pleasure of watching your movies as it shows heart and passion in it and not just money making business.

*shrugs* Anyway, happy apocalyptic year, dear.
    Lets hunt some dragons!

  26. Happy New Year!!

Great news that you keep going with the blog! :)
Hope 2012 will be a great Year for you and your projects.
    Regards from Germany

  27. First time I get to know you was the Deathwach movie. Although I’m a huge Silent Hill fan, my world is not made up only from Silent Hill. I spend time reading a true director’s/script writer’s own thoughts, which is quite good and enjoyable experience for me. Please, keep it up.

    • I second that. I too am a huge SH fan, but I was a fan of your work before I knew you were diong the second installment. Sure I was dissapointed by the fact that Gans decided to drop the project as I feel he too is a great film-maker (to my taste definitely), but when I learned that you were he new guy for the project all was well again.
I look of course forward to the upcoming movie, but certainly your future endeavours as well, and to no small degree your little tidbits of thoughts and experiances in movie-making in here.

Have a great new year, and all the best in the future!

  28. Thank you for changing your mind. I appreciate all your thoughts & comments. Have a great new year.

  29. Look forward to hearing more about new projects and the new script – and of course, SH will have its debut too in 2012 so busy and exciting year for you.

Saw Prometheus and the Hobbit trailers – both are amazingly tempting and can’t wait – been waiting a long time for the Hobbit since I was a kid so finally…Stellar cast in both films too and hope Ridley has his comeback with style – wonder if the aliens will be given a sympathetic ear although they make the best villains.

@Cathy – yeah the Mayans weren’t as brutal as the Aztecs for sure but I know you’re a sports fan so you’ll love this: they reserved killing for their ballgames which they played as ritual sporting events except with this twist: the winners were sacrificed – think reverse “Running Man” but it was an honour to die a victor. Being an archaeologist, this stuff is often my bedtime reading. No comment on the apocalypse thing though lol…

Glad to continue interacting with all of you – Happy NY and thanks again Michael for keeping on and yes, rules and boundaries can be good tools too. Enjoy the last stage of post.

    • Hah Caroline, I’d hate to see what the Vegas odds would be on a game with Sacrifice as part of the victory celebration.

I kind of like Lev’s comment about it not being the apocolypse but rather the end of an era. As a big Tolkien fan, this is rather appealing, turning 2012 into something akin to the End of the 3rd Age after the destruction of the Ring, ushering in the 4th Age, the Age of Man.

Yes, I’m a sucker for Epics too.

  30. I’m glad to see you continuing the blog, and on behalf of all Silent Hill fans, I want to to apologize for those of us who do not understand patience, courtesy, or the concept that no one owes them exclusive information and multiple trailers. I’ve followed most of your blog posts and I can see you’re a devoted and hard working guy just like the rest of us.

Also, being a Skyrim addict myself, I can relate to your situation. No shame in it.

  31. That is good news. Happy 2012
You look great in action on the 2 pics in that set.

    https://plus.google.com/u/0/photos/106148235067079427902/albums/5692362742644976849

  32. This is wonderful news!

Even though I started coming here because of Solomon Kane, I really enjoy hearing about your other projects and your thoughts in general.

Thank you, and have a wonderful New Year!

  33. That is really great news! I have to say that I was kind of sad when you said your were going to close the blog down, so I’m glad you decided to keep it going. I think the reason the stupid calendar ends on 2012 is because all of the Mayans died out before they could finish. They did sacrifice their own people after all.

  34. Awesome to read you’ll be continuing! And hey, as long as you’ve got something interesting to say–whether it’s about Silent Hill, Solomon Kane, filming in general, or whatever–I’ll definitely still be reading. :)

It’s exciting to hear that Jeff and Akira are working on new material. Can’t wait to hear it! I’m looking forward to Dan Licht’s soundtrack for Downpour, too–from the bits that were in the video game trailer and the track they released, it’s been cool to hear the sound of Silent Hill interpreted by someone other than Akira. I wonder what it’s like for Akira himself?

Heheh, Skyrim. I think everyone I know has it at this point. I’ve been playing Amnesia: The Dark Descent, and holy CRAP is that game unsettling. Very Lovecraftian/Poe-esque in its horror.

Have a happy new year! Hope the new script’s coming along well, whatever it is.

  35. Hey Michael, glad you decided to stick it out, and being a little more strict with posting policies is probably a good idea. As you move forward into a new project, you will get a new set of readers following that project, who will then bump into the Silent Hill fans here, and the Solomon Kane fans here, and that will be the same for each new project. A little bit of editorial control can only be a good thing when things get funky on the blog.

Quick technical question here. You mentioned the score and listening to bits and giving notes. I was wondering what level of collaboration you typically like when working with a composer? I know some prefer to just give the dailies, script or completed scenes to a composer and just let them write, others give very detailed notes on all musical queues they want. I suppose it can sometimes depend on the level of musical knowledge of a director, but how do you approach the collaboration with a composer on this or any other film project? I’ve always been rather fascinated by how a composer can see a few scenes or an action sequence or some dialogue and then translate that into a sound that somehow matches or enhances the emotions of the visual medium. I’ve asked this same question of a few composers, and gotten a variety of answers, so I just wondered what the thought process was on the other side.

OK, maybe not such a quick question.

As for the gaming, it can be good for the brain to have a little release, as long as the time spent doesn’t eat too much into work time. Found that out last year when my work really suffered, so finding a good balance is vital. Nowadays, I choose to read during breaks at work, gives my brain a much needed break as I delve into someone else’s life and world for a few minutes, and then back to the grind wheel.

The trailer for Prometheus does look good, and Ridley Scott is amazing, so I’m hopeful this will live up to the hype. Prequels can have an even rougher time than Sequels in my opinion. This is such a beloved franchise, and I know people wanted this story from the very first time we saw the Alien ship on that planet in the first film. The biggest problem for Scott is that an entire generation of fans have written this prequel in their heads, and there is no way he can portray every permutation that fans have long imagined. I do not envy him one bit on this.

I’m equally anxious about how The Hobbit will turn out, but then, that’s not really a prequel since the source material was written 20 years earlier. But the expectations are enormous, and that trailer looked awesome too. Of course, right now, today, I just hope the UCLA Bruins can beat Illinois in College football, so I’m off to finish watching the game. Spending the whole weekend watching football and hockey, and the Rose Parade. Hope your New Year’s Celebrations are happy and and enjoyable.

  37. Dear Michael,
I am overjoyed to hear from you about all this. It has been sometime, from what i know. And i will continue following this blog even after the release of SH due to the repect you have earned in the SH gaming community, especially myself. Hope you have a great 2012, even though the world will end..haha. *cough* bull *cough*.

  38. Yay!!! That’s great you changed your mind. I was actually kinda bummed about not hearing anything from your site any more. I know I don’t always comment, but I have subscribed to your blog so I see everything that comes in. I feel bad about not commenting on your last post, but I felt that my begging you to change your mind probably wouldn’t make much of a difference. So glad that others spoke up and that you’ll still be hanging in!

And for the record, I first came here because of Solomon Kane – I don’t know much about the whole Silent Hill world (except that it was a video game and they made a movie), but I will now watch the film(s) only because *you* directed the 2nd one. As a director, I hope that means something to you. My experience with SK turned me into a fan, and I look forward to seeing whatever else you put out there for us. :-)

Happy New Year – all the best to you and yours in 2012.

  39. Michael,

This is great news. Thank you.

Thank you also to those who wrote in, convincing Mr. Basset to alter his plans for the blog. I did not thinking responses would go unread so shame on me.

Best wishes to all for a happy, healthy New Year.

  40. Michael is good to know that you’ve decided to keep this place running, I understand when you say you never wanted this place to become SH blog, Silent Hill has not only been part of my life this year, but probably always will be. Good to know that Akira is still working hard.

Ridley Scott is your hero? No love for Lars Von Trier? he is my hero.
Anyway, I hope you Have a good new year at home there, and if the Mayans were right, next year we will not be here again, perhaps in another place and we find ourselves to talk about …..you know of Silent Hill, of course. ;-)

  41. Hey Mr B, glad your continuing with your blog, to tell you the truth i only ever started reading your posts due to myself being a silent hill fan but i have picked up on films like Solomon from which i never heard of which is fab by the way so ta much there. Ill be keeping an eye on your next/upcoming projects and wish you all the best with these in the future. So all the best from Glasgow/Scotland and have a great 2012 to you and your family.

P.s Anytime you want your ass handed to you in MW3 or Battlefield ill be glad to assist ha

    See Ya

  42. Since you are fond of Elric, you should also check out “The Witcher 2″ on the PC or soon on the Xbox360, depending on your gaming platform preference. It’s an excellent, very movie like experience, a great yarn, with high production values and an awesome world. Maybe you are even tempted to dipping your nose into the even more excellent books of Andrezj Sapkoswki, who invented the character Geralt of Rivia.

  43. Dude, that Prometheus trailer totally blew me away.
I seriously can’t wait to see it. I want to know what all this “It is an alien movie, but it really isn’t, but it’s a prequel… sort of.” buisness is all about.

Damn Ridley, stop messing with me and give a straight answer. Haha.

Well, glad you’ve decided to keep the blog going. Cheers.

  44. I feel super glad you decide to keep this blog, I enjoy reading your posts and anything about Silent Hill, your thoughts about movie and filming world, and honestly some posters here are amusing me with they free thoughts and outspokenness. I’m sure this is the first blog I ever really follow. Anyway happy new year to you and the rest of the crew and everyone, and best of luck!

  45. “Partly that’s because of…

    …Skyrim.”

    XD
Yeah, games can do that to you :D .

    Happy new year everyone!

  46. Thank you and Happy New Year.

Regarding the Mayan calendar… I recently came back from Mexico where I had a chance to talk to real Mayans, including one scientist and they all said, that it’s a new era coming, not the end of the world. So, you have plenty of time to keep this blog running. :-)
    Good luck with it.

  47. Woo!!! Skyrim!! You are more awesome now :D
I’m also quite deep in Prometheus, I hope it’s amazing.

Also, I was wondering about the score with Akira and Jeff: The first Silent Hill never had a proper sountrack release, and although you can find most of it around the web, it’s not all. You think that the score can be actually released on CD stores and stuff? ‘Cause there’s gonna be quite a demand for it :D

Have fun this last day of the year!!!

    • I don’t know why the soundtrack for SH1 never got released. I suppose it’s an investment to returns equation that someone does; I’d have thought it would have done well. Then again, it might have been a contract thing to do with publishing rights etc. There’s always some reason for these choices. As for the SH2 score – I don’t know what deal the producers are making with the composers, so I have no idea if the same thing will happen again.

    • Yeah man, it would really be a nice idea to release the old movie’s soundtrack. I’m gostoneph17 from youtube and I’m working with the movie soundtrack and it’s quite complicated. It would be really appreciated by many people if they could do that.

    • You can ask him on his facebook. Thats what I did a few days ago. Maybe if a lot of people are interested he might do it!

  48. Hey, Mr. Bassett, I am glad to hear you are continuing your blog. It has been quite an eventful few months for you and I can’t wait to read more of your travels and future projects. While I did originally come here for the Silent Hill film, I have since watched “Deathwatch” and “Wilderness” and really enjoyed them. Silent Hill or not, I have become a fan of your work! (Also, Skyrim is addicting isn’t it? Haha!)

I hope you have a Happy New Years and even better years to come!

  49. Michael, I read recently that they are going to make the brilliant book Boneshaker written by Cherie Priest, into a film. I think you would be perfect as the director, has anybody spoken to you about it yet? Hope you have a great New Year and prosperous 2012. Kind Regards. Brian Buttery
