MIXING ROOM

You wanted a couple of pics of desk and room…. here you go.

Big desk, lots of buttons.  I asked how many tracks of sound we have; it tops out at around 150 tracks.  Give or take.

Pic with the screen has been blurred, (just so this doesn’t start circulating as a still from SH). Obviously we don’t mix to a blurry picture :)

  1. Ah that pic, it seems like Heather is calling his father over the telephone. Then this creepy old man appear :D

  2. I recall a dream that I had 2 years ago that I was involved in the sound design for SH2!

  3. We can expect the teaser trailer any time soon.
Thanks Mr. Micheal, I hope we see a great movie.

  4. Too excited for the movie!

  5. Badass! Thx 4 this Michael. Even though blurred, I still needed my Adelaide fix ;)

  6. You continue to make us fans more and more excited. I’m sure we’re all heavily hoping this film lives up to what we hope for. I’m sure you got us drawn in though, after all you aren’t that Christophe Gans guy. Not to be rude, but after SH i’m not a huge fan of him. So keep em’ coming Michael. ^_^

    • Why’s that? The movie was pretty good. His “Brotherhood of the wolf” was very good as well.

    • It was of a far higher standard then every other video game adaptation. And the world he crafted in that film definitely was ‘Silent Hill’, and I see that as an accomplishment. Also, you can pick up the odd things that definitely prove he’s a frenchman. :P
Not a great film, but I put that down to the writing, rather then the Direction.

      • Don’t get me wrong, i love the first movie, it got me into the games in the first place, i just don’t appreciate how he really changed SH. Much like Homecoming, it just didn’t feel right. But that’s just my opinion. I’m not attempting to cause an argument and i hope i’m not portraying that i am.

  7. Even blurry, Adelaide is one hell of a looker.

  8. Silent hill rendered on a Nintendo 64 thus the blur lol

  9. I’d like to go into that room and press all those buttons.

  10. Thanks for sharing! I could kill just to be on the studio and push one button on the desk.. But that would destroy the sound and movie ;) Best of luck!

  11. Ohhhh, the size of your……….mixing desk.
Making me feel a little insecure :d

  12. omg this made my day~

  13. Awesome! Don’t be afraid to go real crazy with picture taking! MORE!! XD

  14. Hello Michael:

I know this may be late to say this (Working, being a Husband and Father as well as some entrepreneurial pursuits take a lot of my time), but THANKS TREMENDOUSLY for keeping your blog up. You are an amazing film-maker, as well as a real down-to-earth cat. All of us, and those that cross through your path, in person, and on this blog, are extremely lucky and fortunate, to be able to interact with you. Many film-makers wouldn’t even give their fans and supporters the time of day, but you do – and not only that, you give all of us an informative, educational, and edifying glimpse into your professional craft that you do so well, as well as interacting with us. Thanks so, SO much. I know the Silent Hill fanbase can be a special bunch sometimes, LOL!!!! It’s inspiring, especially to get information on the technical side as well (since I do video production and art on the side). Thanks also for the pics of the sound mixing room – may the mixing process go smoothly. Was curious – what kind of tape format are you guys outputting the mix to? And are you transferring that (along with the visuals) to 35mm or 70mm? I recall you saying that the film was shot on RED cameras. Just curious.

Like many, I’m looking very much forward to seeing your finished product, but also realize that good things take time. Judging by all the things I’ve seen online (i.e., set pics, pics from filming, pics of the actors, and the information you provide), I KNOW it will be a wonderful addition to the Silent Hill universe that we know and love, and I’ll DEFINITELY be checking the film out when it comes out, most likely the first weekend it comes out. I know the promotional stuff (i.e., trailers, posters, and the like) will be some cool stuff, too, and also can’t wait to see Pyramid Head’s Great Knife swinging at us in 3-D, as well as the creatures (wonder if the God Boss from SH3 is going to show up). I’m having a nerdgasm, LOL!!!!!!

Have a great day, and may you be able to take a nice vacation after the film comes out, and take a well-deserved break! Good luck on the rest of the film and on ALL your future endeavors!

    Best Regards,

    Critical Eye

  15. Freaking sweet :D

  16. OMG IM SOOOO EXCITED :) (SILENT NERD) http://www.facebook.com/pages/Silent-Nerd/232098646823707 ….. http://silentnerd302.tumblr.com/

  17. I’m looking forward to this movie like none other. I can’t wait!

  18. It looks nice!

Yeah, like Schwarzenegger use to say: “i’m back”.

  19. D00d. That’s so cool. It’s like your own mini movie theater. Which I guess is the point. :) Thanks for the pics!

  20. I can tell Adelaide is looking good in that pic! :D

  21. Im so excited to see this movie!!! (Eagerly waits for a trailer and official release date)

  22. I got a tour of Skywalker Sound once, but not the booth, just peeked in to one of the rooms where an actor was looping dialogue (Jeff Bridges no less). But I have worked previously at a radio station, so the booth is what I wanted to see, but since they were actively working, I would have been in the way.

Wow, up to 150 tracks at a time, now that’s layering that even lasagna makers can be impressed by. ;-)

    • Sounds pretty cool, Cathyu. Just curious – was Jeff Bridges looping dialogue for “Tron Legacy” when you saw him? I read that Skywalker Sound was where Kosinski and Lisberger mixed the audio for Tron: Legacy.

      • No Critical Eye, this was a very long time ago. The only reason I got the tour is that a friend of mine worked in Accounting there and my car broke down on the freeway. After I got a tow to a garage, I walked over to her work to get a ride home from her when she was off work. I didn’t even bother to ask what film he was looping, I just know he was lying on a mattress on the floor, all comfy like.

        • Cathy – lucky girl (bizarre how things happen at times). I did trivia last night with my team and they always play a video clip for questions and it was the Big Lebowski clip with the gun and the bowling alley. We aced the questions but the bar owner actually told our host not to play that film again because of profanity- no way to treat a classic:)

  23. Hey either way, I’m glad we got an image to entice our minds about the movie. Pictures, whether blurry or not, don’t give out much info’ as a video would do and I prefer to see pics, again, blurry or not. Can’t wait and have fun mixing! :)

  24. Ha, way cool! Thank you for sharing.
If I was in that room I would be so tempted to touch everything *what’s this? what’s this? there’s color everywhere* XD*
And man do I want a t.v-screen like that!

  25. Wow that is one huge board and screen. How on earth do they handle 150 tracks?! Remarkable. Thanks – very cool.

  26. This is the biggest smiled I ever made. :D Ha!

Months and months and months of asked for informations and details and screenshots, ad we finally have a blurry image. IT WAS WORTH IT! \o/

Those desks are quite impressive. Damn… I would give the world to learn how to use them…

  27. Looking forward to the film Mr Bassett, I think it is safe to say we know it’s in good hands!

  28. AMAZING!!!!Thank you so much for sharing! You made my day!! This will be well worth waiting for so take all the time that is needed! I’m a patient fan!

  29. AHHHHH! So excited.

  30. Thanks a lot, Michael! You`re the best, really. I wish there would be other directors who would follow your example. And I don`t mean to spoil things, just to maintain the interest for a movie.

  31. Thanks!! for some weird reason I feel a little bit less anxious with those pics. Must be ’cause I feel the movie or a trailer it’s not so far now *w*

  32. I CAN’T WAIT!

  33. OMG. I love the picture. Made me excited! :D
