Several friends and myself would like to know, being as we’re all Howard fans and under the age of 17 if the Solomon Kane film will perhaps be PG13? Anything over that rating will surelly be a let-down for there is a great many of us with very strict parents and a love for Solomon Kane
After seeing SK trailer I think you can make a new/good Mortal Kombat movie. There are many fans, who want to see a new movie of MK and I believe that you can do it. Excuse me about my English, i think that it is not very well. Anyway is just a comment.
Dear Mr. Bassett, I do not know your your work, but I know Solomon Kane. I’ve watched your rough trailer from comic-con over and over and I think it looks marvelous! You’ve got the right feel, the right gear, the right actors. The sword fighting looks real rather than computerized and I love shooting the pistols from horseback! If character and story driven rather than special effects, I think you have a real winner here. Can’t wait to see it! Any dates of release in USA? Terence
Michael, what are the chances of Solomon Kane making an appearance at Empire’s second annual ‘Movie-Con’ convention this month? Some new footage or a Q&A with you might help spread the word… http://www.empireonline.com/movie-con/
Hi
I think it’s a good idea but because the UK distribution is already organised, it’s up to that company to arrange these things. Right now I’d say the chances are remarkably slim but you never know.
M
I got to see all the fabulous footage at Comic-Con this year, and since then I’ve been frantically searching the internet to see when I’ll actually be able to see the whole film. Any news on a US release? What’s holding things up? Who do we need to mob to get this bad boy released?
Many people say “Cool” before starting praise the cinema, but when it enters in renting are dysappointed. So happened with “Terminator Salvation” McG. Something beside it not take. Begin – excellent, but end – not words. What you think about this?
It’s good seeing Solomon Kane in motion and in Russian! Great seeing a fellow ‘Shropshire Lad’ doing so well and making something interesting from such a story-ripe era. Anyway, question – How about you have a crack at Dredd?
Hi Michael, I’m Lorenzo Bertuzzi, we met in Cannes after SK screening. I’m a programmer of scienceplusfiction an italian scifi/fantastic film festival. I really want to screen SK in our festival, could you help me, please?
Hello Mr Bassett,
i cannot wait to see Solomon Kane when it comes out in the UK. The TIFF reviews are looking good so congratulations with that. I just wondered if you were able to comment on what kind of things you would do with Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell if you had the chance to make it. It’s a phenomenal book and I hope you are picked to make it.
All the best.
Gethin Thomas
I appreciate that. I really hope your movie will get distributed here in Germany. It could also be shown at Germany’s largest Fantasy Film Fest – see here: http://www.fantasyfilmfest.com.
Just viewed the official trailer and now I’m even more excited that the quick Comic-Con version! Can’t wait!! Any time-frame for a Los Angeles premiere? As a thirty year Solomon Kane fan, you’ve done a helluva job! Congrats!
I’m really keen to get a Los Angeles screening sorted out but until the US distribution is finalized I don’t really think Kane will be seen in North America for a while.
I like them well enough. Of course my friend Samuel Hadida produces them so I’m duty bound to be nice. They could stand to be a little more intense and frightening IMHO. I’m very interested to see what the new one they’re doing in 3D is going to be like.
I’m actually playing a zombie in the new one, Resident Evil 4 filming here in Toronto and yes I hope my virally infected self will be quite scary in 3D. I guess the title Extinction for the last one was a misnomer of sorts…Meant to comment also on the reviews for SK. Ignore the bad ones: I sat next to a 60+ year old lady at TIFF and we chatted a bit. Solomon Kane was on her list of to-see films but she couldn’t do it schedule wise so clearly all types of people – and trust me she didn’t look like a fantasy fan! – are intrigued by the film. I loved it and it was a great ride.
Hiya Michael, very impatient to see this film on the big screen – the trailer looks seriously fantastic! Hope all well with you and yours. Best regards, Phil H-W
Hey Phil
Glad you liked the trailer. Film turned out okay We tried to get Rach to Spain but she was busy. Hopefully we can all hook up again in the UK sometime.
Hi Michael, do you know if we are close to getting a UK release date at all….and there seem to be alot of preview screenings across the pond….any scheduled for the UK at all ?
I don’t think there are going to be any previews in the UK. It doesn’t seem to be the style of the UK distributor at all. They’ll do press screenings etc but as they’ve already got their dates in mind and are beginning to design the campaign and press schedule they’re just not interested in sneak-screenings. It may change but at the moment, I’m completely out of this particular loop and just waiting for a call to start the press interviews etc.
I was wondering if you would be interested in doing a written interview for the Dutch horror website horror.nl. If you are interested, please contact me on my e-mail adress.
Quick question….did you ever get a chance to look over Simon R. Green’s Deathstalker book series? Just wondering….and waiting for the US release information…
Mark Y.
According to Comingsoon.net, another of Robert E. Howard’s characters is heading back to the big screen – Kull. Any chance you’d be interested in that? The original movie, Kull The Conqueror, was a bit tongue-in-cheek/silly, but Joel Goldsmith composed a fantastic score. I hope whoever does the new version retains his rousing theme if nothing else (hint hint)!
I have to say that ‘Kull the Conqueror’ the movie embodies just about everything I have hated about most of the sword and sorcery films that have been made in these last few decades. To me it hardly feels like anything really matters, the performances are shallow and hardly any REH’s spirit was there. (But hell, some folks say the same about my Solomon Kane.) Not wanting to disrespect Kevin Sorbo or anyone involved in the production but it just makes me cringe to watch. So if Paradox want to re-visit the character and do it some proper justice with great visuals, a great actor delivering a performance worth watching, a budget to get it right and someone with a proper vision for bringing it all together, than I’m all for that.
I agree with all of that, Michael! It is most definitely NOT a good film (unless you’re a bit drunk when watching it), and the only thing I honestly like about it is the music by Joel (son of Jerry) Goldsmith. There’s some lovely, lush stuff – listen to a piece called Card Reading on his website to see what I mean: http://www.freeclyde.com/bytes/kull/02/kull_02.html – so while I’d love to see a new, serious-minded and respectful interpretation of the character, I think I’d miss that score if they didn’t use at least some of it. I guess we’ll have to wait and see what happens. Oh, and of course, I’m very excited about Solomon Kane! I’m really looking forward to seeing it, and fingers crossed it’s a big hit so we get a couple of sequels!
Would I be able to organise an interview with you Michael? I tried going through your UK agency but seem to have been put in indefinite hold. I work for an Irish magazine called Click – you can see my details below.
Daniel.
Hi Daniel – I’m happy to do an interview to support Kane but I’m told all these things have to go through the PR agents after approval from the distributors. The UK release date of the film is March 12th but I’m not sure about when it comes out in Ireland. Contact Christelle Dupont of the DDR agency at christelle.dupont@ddapr.com. She’ll make arrangements and I’m sure it will be fine.
Saw Kane at the second screening at TIFF, thanks again for signing and giving out the posters. Very much enjoyed it and have found it hard to find more on the character.
Any updates on a North American release, i have friends in both countries awaiting the film. Thanks, good luck in Paris!
… is solomon kane going to be released in germany as well? couldn´t find any sort of information about it… and if so, you must keep an eye on the synchronization..cause if it doesn´t fit..such as the rome stuff of JP the movie can be as perfect as possible it won´t be successful.. and i saw some french/ english trailers in the net. it´s really tempting.
Hiya – yes SK will come to Germany but I have no idea when. It’s a deal still being worked out. As for the the re-voice and synch, sadly that’s nothing I have any control of and I have to rely on the local distributor to do the best job possible. It’s always a real worry but not a damn thing I can do.
It’s not LAST in the UK, it’s just somewhere in the mix This all happens because Solomon Kane is a true independent movie and this means that each distributor in each country buys the movie and has the freedom to do with it whatever they like and whenever they like. Often the USA will lead the worldwide release but I think everyone got sick of waiting for that deal to be finalised and wanted to get the movie to the audience as and when they chose. Very frequently release dates are driven by availablilty of screens and the nature of the competition. In the case of the UK there is no firm date but I’m now being told it’s early March. The UK distributor ‘Entertainment’ are very, very good at what they do and the film couldn’t be in safer hands, so I’m hoping they’re going to use the extra time to build a great campaign and increase awareness.
Dear Mr. Basset,
I am from Turkey and I have been watching the progress of Solomon Kane project eaagerly for a very long time. Howard fans in Turkey are troubled by a very important question; When and how can we see Solomon Kane the movie? How is the distribution process going on? When will be the dvd and blue ray release happen?
Take care…
Jeez, don’t you think I’d say if I knew? It’s driving me fucking crazy waiting for the grown-ups to get their shit together and make this happen. The trailer is finished. Done. It looks gorgeous and is just waiting for someone to press ‘SEND’. Not my call, so I can’t do it….. don’t ask.
Lol, I’m just as impatient as you are for this to come out. Anyway, if you wish (and able to), email me the trailer at sfkidd@optonline.net. I’ll leave you be now. Look me up on twitter under MOVIELORD101 and follow. I have a non-trailer related question for you on there. OK? See ya later!

Okay, thanks for the reply! I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you.
Hey michael,
Once the copyright issue over the music is settled, when can we expect an official quality Quicktime version of the Comic-Con trailer?
I got to see all the fabulous footage at Comic-Con this year, and since then I’ve been frantically searching the internet to see when I’ll actually be able to see the whole film. Any news on a US release? What’s holding things up? Who do we need to mob to get this bad boy released?
Ditto everything about the poster. Is there an official outlet for them? Will you have any with you when you do public appearances Michael?
Many people say “Cool” before starting praise the cinema, but when it enters in renting are dysappointed. So happened with “Terminator Salvation” McG. Something beside it not take. Begin – excellent, but end – not words. What you think about this?
Ok, so the Russian trailer’s out, when can we expect the English dubbed version?
Very, very, very soon.
Uhhh…specific date, please? Like tonight or tomorrow, for example?
It’s good seeing Solomon Kane in motion and in Russian! Great seeing a fellow ‘Shropshire Lad’ doing so well and making something interesting from such a story-ripe era. Anyway, question – How about you have a crack at Dredd?
HEY! The English trailer was JUST posted this morning by Dread Central, but was taken down! What’s going on?

Hi Mr. Bassett,
has Solomon Kane a distributor in Germany? (which one?)
When can I expect to see it here in Germany?
Thanks
Marc
Actually, I don’t know about Germany… I’ll find out and get back to you.
Thanks Michael .
I appreciate that. I really hope your movie will get distributed here in Germany. It could also be shown at Germany’s largest Fantasy Film Fest – see here: http://www.fantasyfilmfest.com.
I hope to hear back from you

Hi Michael,
any news on distribution in Germany or some special screening at a festival here?
I’m desperate to see your movie.
Thanks

Hi, What you think about “Resident evil”?

Dear Mr. Bassett, I hope you’ve signed James P. for Kane 2 & 3! I think you’re going to have a monster hit on your hands here! Cheers!
Yep Jimmy is on board. I hope you’re right.

Have fun with RE4. The makeup team from Kane are working on that one.
Sadly not true Phil.
